VAS is excited to host Imprint: Word Play in Art Space – a unique storytelling event that blends art, word, and song over four weeks. This dynamic program includes exhibitions, workshops, events, and a one-day symposium, bringing together artists, scholars, practitioners, and creativity enthusiasts to explore the powerful connection between art and storytelling.

At the heart of the program is descript, a stunning five-year body of work by two-time VAS Artist of the Year, Jennifer Fyfe. Spanning the upper galleries, descript combines vintage texts, oil paintings, and community stories in oil paint, ink, and braille. Designed with accessibility in mind, the exhibition also features installations that encourage visitor interaction and discussion, reflecting on themes like belonging, connection, and conscience.

Other exhibitions include:

  • Unconventional Beauty: The Goils of the Sideshow by Lucy Fekete
  • The Colt From Old Regret by Erica Wagner
  • Love You, George by Marketa Kemp
  • Emerging artist and sustainability CEO Charli English
  • Bachelor of Illustration Students from Melbourne Polytechnic

Throughout the event, a full program of workshops, book launches and artist demos will take place. A highlight will be a one day symposium with speakers from painters to tattoo artists and neuroscientists discussing their creative practices. Special guests and thought-provoking discussions will enhance this month-long exploration of art and storytelling.
