Immerse yourself in a sensory journey with Echoes of Silence: A Percussion Multimedia Odyssey. This transformative contemporary performance direct from Hong Kong blends experimental sound and captivating visuals in its Australian debut at this year’s Adelaide Fringe.
Inspired by the work of composer John Cage and author Franz Kafka, this isn’t just another Fringe performance — it’s a journey that will tantalise your senses in a world of sound and storytelling.
Everyday objects are reimagined as musical instruments to perform Cage’s Living Room Music, alongside Kafka’s haunting literary themes that will twist your perception of reality and shine the spotlight on Hong Kong’s contemporary music scene.
“By reimagining everyday objects as sources of sound, we challenge our audience to hear the world around them in a completely new way,” said Executive Artistic Director, Louis Siu. “It’s about unlocking the music hidden in the ordinary and transforming it into something extraordinary.”
From Lam’s Round for Mahjong, which pushes the limits of rhythm by creating music from the popular tile game Mahjong, to Lo’s Triune Tempi, where texture and percussion fuse in electrifying bursts, expect percussive rhythms, haunting melodies, and innovative projections to create an unforgettable experience that unlocks new dimensions of artistic expression that will leave you questioning everything long after the final note fades.
“We’re not just performing music,” said Siu, “We’re reshaping what music can be. From Mahjong to abstract rhythms and experimental projections, the show will engage all of your senses, leaving you questioning the very nature of sound and storytelling.”
Having performed across the globe to sold out shows in auditoriums, theatres and even a reservoir, this percussion-driven multimedia production pushes artistic boundaries and invites you to transcend convention.
This show is part of Hong Kong Soul, a contemporary platform founded by TS Crew to showcase the diversity and unique talents of Hong Kong artists in a collective way. Other artists include No Dragon No Lion and a variety of Hong Kong street performers.
