Dual Nature is comprised of a collection of landscape paintings that contemplate the dual nature of the painting surface and its layers of seeing.
The harbour foreshore is a world of differences; the constant is change, in tide, light, air. I paint the differences between these things, their dual nature. The painting surface and harbour surface is an expression of life’s inherent duality and fragility. A dual encounter in these diptychs, for example, is a far experience of observed landscape in light fragments and the near experience of heartfelt brush-mark paint layers.
After working in art and creative direction, Pete went back to tertiary education and graduated with a Master of Art in Painting, creating from his painting studio in Sydney. He felt painting is a courageous endeavour to undertake. He showcases his paintings in many public and private showings at Sydney galleries, Art Fairs, Charity Art Group shows, the Willougby Incinerator Art Space and the Concourse Art Space. He’s forever inspired by paintings’ intuition; it excludes no-one.
Artist Bio
Pete Finlay is a Sydney-based painter whose work is deeply rooted in the discovery and vitality of the natural world. His paintings emerge from the powerful connection he feels with the landscape, particularly along the foreshore, capturing the essence of these places and translating them into vivid creations. This initial spark of inspiration is honed and refined through a thoughtful studio process.
After years of working in art and creative direction, Pete pursued formal studies in painting, earning a Master of Art in Painting. He views painting as a courageous and transformative endeavor—one that invites both personal exploration and shared experience. His work has been featured in numerous public and private exhibitions, including shows at Sydney galleries, Art Fairs, Charity Art Group exhibitions, and notable venues such as the Willoughby Incinerator Art Space and the Concourse Art Space.
Guided by intuition, Pete believes that art has the power to transcend boundaries, offering viewers a unique perspective that allows them to experience the world in new and transformative ways.
