Join artist Louise Saxton in this hands-on workshop, where she will share her passion for reclaiming vintage and antique needlework, made in and for the home in past eras. Taking inspiration from Louise’s artwork Wall Garden, you will work on an embroidery hoop to create your own ‘garden’ of reclaimed needlework to take home.
You will also be able to view Louise’s textile assemblage White Lotus, which is on display at The Johnston Collection, coinciding with the current exhibition Inspired By Women.
What is provided:
A workshop kit to take home, which includes: a pair of sharp embroidery scissors, lace-pins, embroidery hoops, and nylon tulle.
What you’ll need to bring:
Embroidered and/or lace linens (doilies, tea cloths, tray cloths, tablecloths etc) that are no longer in use or, have been collected from local opportunity shops or flea markets. Louise will also supply some of her own ‘stash’ to share, but participants are required to also bring items that they are prepared to cut up to personalise their work.
