Concept to Portfolio is an engaging, 8-month online course designed to guide you in creating a cohesive photography portfolio, from an initial concept to a refined collection of images. This supportive, mentored program is perfect for image-makers who would like to work in a structured way towards a developed body of work, with guidance from an experienced artist, the camaraderie of workshop peers, and ongoing support by photo access.
This year, the group will be mentored by James Rhodes, a Newcastle-based multi-disciplinary artist known for his work in photo-media, painting, and sculpture. With a PhD focused on the meaning of materiality in photographic practice, James is both a lecturer in Photography at The University of Newcastle and a teacher at the Newcastle Art School. He has been a finalist in several notable art prizes, including the Waverley Art Prize and Gosford Art Prize, and exhibits his work in solo shows across Australia, most recently at photo access and Straitjacket Art Space in Newcastle. James brings a rich blend of academic insight along with hands-on experience to the course, and his collaborative approach creates a welcoming space where participants can experiment and push their creative boundaries. Throughout the course, photo access staff will be available for any additional assistance needed.
