The Sedergreen name is synonymous with Australian Jazz. Fresh from their national tour, join iconic father & son combo Bob & Steve Sedergreen, two of the country’s most respected jazz pianists, with special guests, Paula Maki (saxophone), Ashley Gaudion (saxophone/vocals), James Clark (bass), and Rod Gilbert (drums). Expect a performance rich in jazz and familial joviality, with statesman Bob at the piano and Steve on keyboard.
Bob is a true Australian jazz legend, and winner of the prestigious Bell Jazz Award (2018). He has worked with Australian jazz greats – John Sangster, Don Burrows, Brian Brown and supported US jazz greats, Nat Adderley, Dizzy Gillespie, Phil Woods and Milt Jackson. Steve, following in his father’s footsteps, has featured at all major clubs and festivals around the country over the last four decades, and has forged his own reputation as one of the country’s most respected and in-demand jazz pianists, alongside being director and curator of iconic Melbourne jazz club Dizzy’s in the early 2000s.
Special guest Paula Maki is an emerging voice in Australian jazz and indie. Paula and Steve met a few years ago through the jazz improvisation programme at MYO Summer School when she was still in her teens. Ballarat-based, the music graduate (Victoria University) Paula has further developed her playing with Steve’s mentoring and has a strong improvisational ability.
Make a meal of it! The music gets underway at 7.30pm, but arrive a bit earlier if you can. From 6.30pm, enjoy pre-show dinner and drinks at The Count’s Italian-style kitchen and bar.
