An interactive gathering discussing the work of Sovereign Love Poem by the Unbound Collective as part of the 52 ACTIONS exhibition on display. Exploring these poems through a local lens. This interactive workshop will explore these poems and their reference to our local Birpai language and story.
About Rhonda Radley
Dr. Anjilkurri Rhonda Radley is a proud Birrbay/Dhanggati saltwater, freshwater woman from the mid-north coast of New South Wales, and walks with her ancestors. She is known as Baan ‘Aunty’ Rhonda, an active Aboriginal Community Elder supporting the revival of culture through language and practices in her local communities.
Aunty Rhonda advocates for Aboriginal languages to be learned, spoken and seen in educational systems and community spaces. She weaves Gathang language throughout her artforms to invite the viewer/s to use a cultural lens to connect with Aboriginal stories and practices.
About Sovereign Love Poems
Each visitor is offered a message from a woven basket, like a possible fortune; there are a range of messages that you could receive. These small slips of paper contain our Sovereign Love Poems and are a collective reconfiguration and response to the simultaneous inclusion and exclusion of Indigenous peoples on the record in this colonised space.
What happens when we bear witness to random acts of love in public places? What can a Sovereign Love Poem do in the mundane every day? What rupturing can occur, when lovingly reminded that this is Aboriginal land?
About the Unbound Collective
The Unbound Collective are a group of artists/academics working out of Flinders University on Kaurna Yarta. Their work embraces complex questions of what it means to be Sovereign peoples.
Mbararam/Yidinyji, Yankunytjatjara, Narungga, Mirning – and exist both within and outside of the institutionalisation of the colonial settler state that continually seeks to categorise and contain them.
