From Venice to Tasmania: a design collaboration shifting thinking

Australia’s representation at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale returns home to Tasmania, for its Australian debut.

In May 2023, a group of Australian architects and artists decided to shake up colonial heritage for the 18th edition of Biennale Architettura – the International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia.

It was the ninth time that the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) coordinated Australia’s representation in the Australian Pavilion. What differed this time, to past years, was that the overarching theme of the Biennale was announced prior to Australia’s selection …. and then the Queen died.
