What does Dark Mofo bring apart from the spectacle?

ArtsHub speaks with three local artists on how Hobart's arts ecology has evolved with Dark Mofo plus their 2022 program highlights.

‘Good, bad or otherwise, when you have an institution of scale with a lot of resources and momentum, it will create its own gravity,’ said Tricky Walsh, artist and founder of New Norfolk Gallery Haus of Vovo, regarding Hobart’s soon-to-open winter festival, Dark Mofo.

‘I think initially [Dark Mofo] was something which drew a lot of people down here who didn’t necessarily end up venturing far outside the program. That’s obviously been changing over the years, with a lot of galleries here either becoming part of the program or certainly coinciding with it,’ Walsh said.
