The art we choose to show captures a picture of our society. 2016 was a difficult year, with derailed governments, geopolitical ruptures and trauma and tragedies as the refugee plight spiralled. None of these is likely to change in a hurry ​but we can expect the choice of art shown in 2017 to reflect the ways artists help us live in this challenging world.
