Sydney art schools have been struggling lately, a kind of David and Goliath story between big business university models, government proficiency measures and recognition that diversity drives innovation and creative cities.
The National Art School in Darlinghurst has not been removed from this tension. It has been in genuine conversations with government partners and the other university-based arts school – Sydney College of the Arts (SCA) and UNSW Art & Design – but has remained strong in its positioning for independence.
