There’s a strong feeling of optimism and positivity in the arts sector in Canada, said Simon Brault, Director and CEO, Canada Council for the Arts.
Last month the Federal Government doubled the budget of Canada Council – the equivalent of the Australia Council – as part of an injection of $1.9 billion into arts and culture over five years.
The doubling of funding represents a doubling of possibilities to build richer lives for Canadians. ‘This kind of reinvestment in the arts is historic. And the Canada Council believes that it opens the door to an artistic renaissance, with outcomes that will benefit Canadians and the world,’ said Brault.
It’s a stark contrast to the $104.8 million in cuts to the Australia Council over four years announced in the 2015-2016 Budget.
