in its 40th year, Sydney Festival proves it has overcome the glitter of the harbour to provide a festival that goes where people live.

Sydneysiders are deeply invested in Sydney Festival, which next year celebrates its 40th anniversary. The degree of engagement has come in part from the Festival’s focus on developing ‘an active relationship’ with the city’s inhabitants, according to Festival Director Lieven Bertels.

Richard is a life member of the Melbourne Queer Film Festival, a Melbourne Fringe Festival Living Legend, and was awarded the Sidney Myer Performing Arts Awards' Facilitator's Prize in 2020.
