Cultural tourism is booming. A report by the Australia Council shows that Australia is enjoying an increase in cultural tourism, with more than one in three international tourists engaging in an arts activity while visiting Australia. Among domestic overnight tourists, 20 per cent participate in two or more cultural or heritage activities during their stay.
Heads often turn to Melbourne when thinking of Australia’s cultural destination, or the likes of MONA when considering how the arts can transform cities, but cultural tourism flourishes outside these epicenters.
