The new appointment of Katrina Sedgwick as CEO and director of the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, is a signifier of women moving up in the arts. Previously Head of Arts at the ABC, Sedgwick is familiar with being at the top – and despite popular opinion, she’s far from lonely.
Earlier this year, ArtsHub conducted a salary survey which found women make up 79% of the arts industry workforce – an astounding percentage when compared to industries even on the fringe of the arts. In architecture, a 2012 survey found only 21 per cent of all registered architects in Australia were women.
