As the birthplace of some of Australia’s most acclaimed thespian talent, Australia’s elite arts educator the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) is putting out an open call for enthusiastic, driven and passionate individuals to apply for its Studio Courses in 2015.
Offering intensive training every weekend over six or 12 months, NIDA Studio courses include key elements of their higher education program to deliver practice-driven training across a range of disciplines including acting, physical theatre, filmmaking, musical theatre, screen acting, TV presenting, writing, directing and designing.
With several past Studio course graduates going on to study at the prestigious higher education centre, as well as securing successful careers, like acclaimed stage and screen actor Lindsay Farris. NIDA Open Senior Course Manager Jenevieve Chang said that the Studio classes provide an opportunity for emerging dramatic artists to nurture and develop their craft.
‘We offer a very particular independent training model, which touches on all aspects of the industry, so that once students are out of training they are confident and equipped with the knowledge to help navigate a successful career,’ said Chang.
Open to two separate age groups 15-18 and adults, in small and selective classes, the Studio courses work towards instilling the skills and requirements a working dramatic artist should hold.
In response to audience demands for further comprehensive and advanced training, NIDA Open is offering a new Advanced Actors Studio in 2015. As part of the course for the first time NIDA will to be asking the students to make their own webisode series in keeping with industry trends.
Entry into Studio courses is dependent on experience but ultimately comes down to the individuals drive and direction in the arts, which is determined as part of the audition and interview process.
‘The ideal candidate for our Studio courses is someone that is serious about a career in the industry. They need to be committed, they need to be dedicated to the art of learning and they need to be collaborative,’ said Chang.
