A new exhibition at The State Library of Victoria displays an intriguing selection of sculptures by Australian artist Nicholas Jones.

Jones, who will be known to some through his previous works of sculpted books, was one of the recipients of the Library’s Creative Fellowships for 2012–13. Jones’ Fellowship proposal came about after several years of research into mapping and the history of cartography. This subsequently led to his discovery of Terrarum Orbis Theatrum, which is considered to be the world’s first true modern atlas, published 1570 in Antwerp, Belgium.
