Audience figures and social media followers have increased with some surprising winners in a new OzCo report.

Opera was the biggest winner with orchestras and dance also positing increases. Theatre, on the other hand, had a weak year but the industry will have to wait for next month’s analysis for assessment of the reasons.

 
Preliminary analysis of annual reporting from the Major Performing Arts sector for 2012, conducted by the Australia Council, has revealed that the combined box office income of the 28 leading Australian companies increased by $28 million to $203 million, with all art forms except theatre reporting increases.
