ArtsHub investigates why a successful national organisation was quietly defunded, leaving state writers’ centres reeling.
At a November 2009 meeting of the Australia Council’s Literature Board a proposal was brought to the table. Under a new initiative, the state and territory writers’ centres would form a national organisation to serve writers Australia wide.
It was an exciting idea. Not only would state and territory centres benefit from streamlining funding proposals by doing it collectively, the new organisation would offer national programs while generating new opportunities and increasing efficiency.
