The Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) has just opened, and the Sydney Comedy Festival (SCF) is waiting in the wings. Hundreds of comedians will be performing in the coming weeks, many of them big names with even bigger profiles, whose slightest utterance will be met with guffaws, shrieks and giggles. But for true comedy devotees, the real fun often lies in discovering someone new – the little-known comedic gem who is just starting out; the highly commended sophomore whose profile has yet to reach stratospheric heights.
