Even with only the briefest amount of research, the link between first-time Adelaide Festival Artistic Director David Sefton and music is immediately apparent. He began his career in his hometown of Liverpool as a music journalist and promoter, was Deputy Director of Music at the Royal Festival Hall and was the founder of London’s alternative music festival, Meltdown.
It therefore seems only natural that music would be his focus at this year’s Adelaide Festival, his first as Artistic Director and also the first time that the festival has become an annual event. Sefton, however, hasn’t let his love for music come at the cost of other elements of the programming and the 2013 Adelaide Festival comes bursting out of the gate with a full program of visual arts, dance, music and theatre.
