Literally the biggest show on earth

Major acts like U2 or Madonna typically travel with 50 or 60 semi-trailers. Cavalia travels with 100 including 50 horses, enabling an artistic dialogue between human and animal.

It’s tempting to wonder if Latourelle has gone full circle when you hear about his newest spectacular. Cavalia is an equestrian extravaganza in which horses take central stage.  But Cavalia is no more horses doing tricks than Cirque is cheerleaders forming human pyramids. Latourelle spent 10 years develop an aesthetic built on the relationship between horse and human which plays out before the audience.

The genesis of the work was in a show Latourelle directed which included one horse as an extra among a cast of human performers. ‘I was surprised to see how much attracted to the horse the audience was. Whenever the horse was there they were not looking at the performers, they were looking at the horse.’
