The 2012 Chilean National Prizes for history, applied science and technology, natural sciences, literature and music were recently announced at a ceremony at La Moneda presidential palace.
The National Prize for Literature was awarded to poet Óscar Hahn, whose previous work was actually forbidden during the Pinochet dictatorship. Now, the 75-year-old poet continues to freely publish his work, while also maintaining a position as professor of Chilean and Hispano-American literature at Universidad de Tarapacá.
