When you walk into a job interview, it’s easy to forget to smile, look relaxed and make eye contact. The best piece of advice is to prepare for the interview, including its non-verbal components. Consider what nervous tics you may have and work out ways to manage them: if you wring your hands or play with your hair, make an effort to clasp your hands in your lap or hold them on the table in front of you. If you tap your feet or shake your legs, plant your feet firmly on the floor or cross your ankles. Take a moment to settle yourself into a physical position in the room before you begin to speak, sit up straight, take a deep breath and smile. It is easier to project relaxation and capability if you are feeling it!
