Elena Knox makes live art, performance, video, music, sound and text. Her works propose and disrupt embodiments of gender. She grew up in classical music and vaudeville, made it to the “Top 10 girl-on-girl screen kisses of all time” with Kate Winslet, and expects one day to be a bag lady.
Elena has performed in Australia, Europe, the USA and UK, at venues and festivals including Akademie der Künste Berlin, Women and Theater Program (NYU), Society for Film and Media Studies (Philadelphia), Magdalena Project, Centre for Performance Research (Wales), Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Music for the Eyes (Sydney Opera House), Living Museum of Fetishized Identities (La Pocha Nostra) and Athens Video Art Festival. Her pop duo Actual Russian Brides is released by Brigade Music Berlin. She has appeared for Ensemble Theatre and in Jane Campion’s Holy Smoke. She is a doctoral candidate at the College of Fine Arts, Sydney
