We’ve become very aware of how easy it is to reproduce, copy and share material on the internet and how this can lead to artists missing out on receiving royalties or fair payment from their work. But people have been able to reproduce copyrighted material in a number of ways for a long time, photocopying for instance or in day-to-day internal business communications; and people may not realise they’re unwittingly infringing copyright by doing so.
Making people aware of what requires payment and ensuring it’s easy for them to do so, is an essential way of clawing back some of these licence and royalty payments for artists, and the Copyright Agency Ltd (CAL) along with Viscopy are working towards doing just that.
