Put simply, honesty is the best policy. You may manage to get an interview with a slight distortion of the facts on your resume but it is likely to come back to haunt you eventually; be it during the interview, when references are checked, or at your first day on the job. Also, don’t attempt a bluff; employers can tell very quickly if you don’t have the knowledge or experience you said you had.
Recruitment and selecting a new employee is a costly and time consuming process and employers will frown on people that waste their time. If you don’t have the experience or qualifications that are listed as essential you waste your time and the employers by applying. It is just as important to be honest with yourself. Are you really suited to the position?
