A unique insight into the legacy of leading indigenous photographer, Ricky Maynard has been brought to Melbourne, Portrait of a Distant Land as exhibition of 60 works spanning two decades of his practice and drawing on six bodies of work.
First shown as part of the inaugural Photoquai Biennale organised by Musée du Quai Branly in Paris, the exhibition shows passion and meticulous attention to detail encapsulates an honest and deeply felt interpretation of his people and the land they inhabit. Known for his commitment to representing his people and his belief in the value of documentary photography as a tool to effect social changes, through his photographs Ricky Maynard offers a journey of alternative perspectives and cultural insights.
