Smith Street in Collingwood is a constant hive of activity. Latte sipping hipsters stroll smoothly up the gum-stained pavement as trams rumble past. It’s an eclectic mix of people from all walks of life and is probably one of the few places in Australia where you can see a burly tradie lunching in a vegan cafe. Amid all this humdrum you could be forgiven for walking straight past In.Cube8r Gallery, and you’d be sorry you did.
In.Cube8r is an idea that is ingenious in its simplicity. Artists are given the opportunity to rent glass cubes for a fixed price per week (depending on the size of the cube) and take 100 percent of the profit made. This saves them paying huge amounts of commission to galleries and can help them gain a stranglehold in a competitive industry.
