This week Christine Milne, Deputy Leader of the Australian Greens and spokesperson for the Arts, launched a number of updates to the Greens Arts Policy collection. Everyone knows, or thinks they know, where the Greens stand on environmental issues, but given the potential power they may wield in the Senate after this election, it’s worth giving their ideas on the Arts a careful look.
On the face of it, their policies are reactive to what the current Labor Government has been doing or are ideas that are not too ambitious; nice principles and careful small-target plans. Which is not intended to be disparaging, frankly, a minor party that many sectors of the electorate still view with suspicion has to be judicious.
