Melbourne’s inner-city bookshops were hit hard by COVID lockdowns. The dramatic drop in foot traffic over the past 18 months meant a drop in sales and a struggle to keep doors open.
To help reverse the damage and entice readers back into their stores, eight CBD bookshops have come together to create the Melbourne City Reads program. The initiative will offer a discounted new book each month from Melbourne-based authors Allee Richards, Miles Allinson, Emily Bitto and Maxine Beneba Clarke.
