Sydney and Melbourne will both be in lockdown from today – the first time since the pandemic began that Australia’s two largest cities have simultaneously closed up shop.
Victorian Premier Dan Andrews announced on Thursday 15 July that the state would be plunged into a five-day snap lockdown, starting at midnight Thursday and ending at midnight on Tuesday 20 July. The decision came after a rise in COVID-19 cases linked to NSW’s Delta outbreak in Sydney.
