Last year I attended the Big Hearted Business conference in Melbourne, and it’s not an exaggeration to say it changed my life. It was full of inspiration, but also practical advice on the business of being creative. There was a lot of discussion about being an ambitious creative person and the difficulties that can come with that. One thing that came up again and again was the idea of being multi-passionate.
A lot of the speakers, as well as the audience, talked about the fact that they felt strongly about following many different paths in their career and struggled with choosing only one. I had never heard the term multi-passionate before, but it was a huge relief to find a more positive label for my own modus operandi than the ones I had heard and used myself in the past in relation to my career: easily-distracted, unable to commit, flighty, confused. It was also a great relief to discover that many other people felt this way, and struggled with it.
