Ten regional Western Australian artists and organisations receive federal funding

Minister for the Arts, Senator George Brandis has announced that $111,248 has been invested in regional Western Australian arts projects through the Regional Arts Fund, managed in Western Australia by Country Arts WA.

A total of ten projects will be supported including seven community based projects and three individual artists.

The funding will enable partnerships between organisations like the Esperance Theatre Guild and Black Swan State Theatre Company, Tura New Music and Djarindjin Aboriginal Corporation. Regional arts organisations like Vancouver Arts Centre are being supported to participate in the international drawing festival The Big Draw and Goolarri Media have an intensive program to develop Aboriginal script writers.

‘The diversity of projects applied for demonstrates both the uniqueness of each regional community and the incredible range of talent found in Western Australian regional arts,’ said Jessica Machin, CEO of Country Arts WA.

First time individual applicants, John Carberry, Harry Jakamarra Gray and Valma Rhodes will be supported in their own professional development programs including developing skills in projection art-architectural storytelling, working with a Melbourne based music producer to create a solo album and attending a jewellers and metal smiths conference and exhibiting work.

The next round of Regional Arts Fund Project funding will close on Friday 14 August 2015.
