Youth theatre companies under pressure in shrinking sector

Only three of 13 youth performing arts companies received project funding from the AusCo for 2016 but it's not always easy to be the winner.

In December 2015, the youth arts sector nationally suffered a major blow when 10 out of 13 companies – including Backbone Youth Arts (QLD), Canberra Youth Theatre (ACT), Cirkidz (SA) and Southern Edge Arts (WA) – failed to secur 2016 project funding from the Australia Council. (An additional company, Australian Theatre for Young People, was supported through a separate funding stream.)
