Australian artists demand TV coverage

Arts news on TV would mean a major boost to the industry and emphasise on the importance of the arts just when we need it.

It is about time that the arts sector gets the visibility it deserves, argue artists Nina Sanadze, Tai Snaith, and Mia Salsjö. The trio have just launched the ARTS are NEWSworthy petition, which calls for a more permanent place for arts news segments on TV, particularly on channels such as the ABC and SBS.

The arts’ large reach is backed up by a 2020 Australia Institute report which states the creative arts employs 194,000 Australians (four times as many as coal mining, and equal to the finance industry), and directly contributes $14.7 billion to the nation’s GDP.
